About Us

Our Garden Community is a space to learn and share gardening skills, meet new friends and enjoy the company!

Our passionate gardeners have reserved plots and spend the growing season working hard to plant, water and tend to their growing crops in order to enjoy the vegetables  and fruits of their labour. Gardeners work in a spirit of collaboration supporting and maintaining the overall look of the garden.  This environmentally friendly and sustainable garden is a space for everyone to enjoy in the villages of Killaloe/Ballina (Co. Clare)

Our History

The Killaloe/Ballina Community Garden (KBCG ) began life in late 2010 under the umbrella of the Killaloe Resource Centre with tutoring from local organic gardener Jim Cronin. Records from the time showed a registered number of 29 members in the first growing season. Amongst these 29 members were a mixture of GIY (grow it yourself) and organic gardeners but most were hands on, interested beginners. There were 10 beds and a mixture of veg and fruit were grown.

Unfortunately Jim had to leave us, but now, armed with a lot more knowledge the garden moved on and developed into what we have today. We are currently affiliated with The East Clare Community Co Op and with their help and mentoring we have secured a grant towards fencing and other vital requirements in order to develop our garden into a secure, green community space.
